Avengers Infinity War filmed in Edinburgh

Much excitement is circulating throughout our wonderful city as large film crews have taken over parts of the Royal Mile and the Waverley train station.

Rumour has it that the first and second unit scenes are being filmed with a budget of £10m. That might sound like a lot of money, but considering the success of the previous films, we are sure that the expense will be well compensated.

The film is being directed by Joe Russo and his brother Anthony who also directed Captain America: Civil War and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Both films received rave reviews and great success at the box office.

The presence of Hollywood in Edinburgh has everyone talking. Joe Russo recently comment: “The city is such a unique and iconic location, but one never seen as the backdrop for a big action film, which is incredibly exciting.”

Successful production

Planning is the key to a successful production. The shoot in Edinburgh has taken a full year to put together. This is no small task and required the dedicated assistance by regional agencies including Creative Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council.

Avengers: Infinity War has a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. Unfortunately, the film is only due to hit the big screen in April 2018 which means we will have to wait a little longer to enjoy it.

B+B Edinburgh is perfectly situated with easy access routes to the Royal Mile and the Waverley train station. It’s clear that even Hollywood shares our love for this beautiful city. If you are a fan of the Avengers films and would like to visit Edinburgh to see the film crew in action, we hope that you will stay with us. Tel: +44 (0) 131 225 5084 / Email: [email protected]

Romantic Edinburgh this Valentines

Move over Paris – Edinburgh is the real ‘City of Love’ and we want to share it with the world!

Here are a few inspirational reasons to surprise your loved one with a visit to Edinburgh this Valentines weekend.

Walk the Royal Mile and the Grassmarket

Colourful Grassmarket

These iconic streets are bursting with history and romance – just sit in one of the many street cafes in the Grassmarket and look up! Colourful shop fronts, independent high end boutiques and unique gift emporiums sit side by side with proper Scottish bars. Buskers and street performers help create a wonderful, lively atmosphere.

Climb Scott Monument

Scott Monument

Head to Princes Street to find all the high street favourites – great jewellers, naughty knicker shops…and the Scott Monument. Built in memory of writer Sir Walter Scott, it dominates the street. Climb the 287 steps at dusk and the sunset you’ll be blessed with is stunning – very romantic!

Book a Ghost Tour

Doesn’t sound so romantic but imagine the hero you’d become in making your darling feel safe and secure in the dark. Many of the secrets beneath the city can only be visited if on an organised tour.

Visit an Arthouse Cinema

The Lothian Road boasts the Cameo and Filmhouse Cinemas – both very vibrant showing the more off beat flicks and documentaries.  There are romantic seats for two in the back row and quirky little bars to help set the mood!

Whisky makes you Frisky…

Whisky

…and when in Rome…! Edinburgh has opportunities on every street to sample the local tipple. Our advice, find a welcoming looking local bar – there are plenty, make yourself at home, ask the landlord to help you through the range and kick back and watch the world go by!

Picnic at the top of Arthurs Seat

Arthurs Seat

..and after all that whisky the day before, a great B+B breakfast and head off to the hills with a picnic of haggis and tea!  Ok so it may be chilly in February but all the more reason to cuddle up beneath your Aaron wool hat and scarf!
